Sr. Mary John Dumaug, RGS

With sadness but profound gratitude to God our Good
Shepherd and Master, we announce the passing of Sr. Mary John Dumaug, RGS in
Maria Droste Infirmary community in Quezon City after 48 years in religious
life. She was 75 years old.

Sr. John was instrumental to the growth of the
indigenous people's ministry of the province in Agusan del Sur in Mindanao
where she labored for twenty years. Later on she would answer the call of
foreign missions in the provinces of Egypt-Sudan and Syria-Lebanon.

She was known to many as the sister who is very devoted
to the care of creation, to ecology, and to the marginalized. Even military
harassments and public accusations did not deter her in being a missionary in
difficult pastoral assignments. Her zeal reflected in her commitment to the
right to self determination of indigenous peoples and respect to their
ancestral domains.

Jesus, Good Shepherd, thank you for Sr. John's zealous
shepherding and creative fidelity. Send us more brave women to follow the path
she trod!

Masses were held on September 21 and 22, 630AM and
8PM. Mass of the Resurrection was on September 23 at 3PM in the Good
Shepherd Chapel, 1043 Aurora Boulevard, Quezon City followed by inurnment of
her cremains at the columbary.
