Prayers for the 2010 National Elections

Prayers for the 2010 National Elections

(Prepared by Sr. Mary Teresita Fiel RGS, of St. Bridget College, Batangas City)

Prayer A: Conversion of Heart

Sundays and Wednesdays

God of history and the human heart, in this crucial time of national elections,
we prostrate ourselves before you and beg for a conversion of heart for all.

For the voters that they may not be lured by gold, intimidated by guns and goods, obligated by "utang na loob" and clouded by hopelessness.

For the presidentiables and candidates in every level, that they may slowly break out of the confines of self and vested interests and catch a glimpse of light to move towards a vision of the common good and good governance.

For the Church, for light and wisdom to speak bravely and gently about truth, justice, peace and love to a flock inured by noise and costly ads, daily doses of bad news in print and TV media, and empty promises of men and women who seek votes.

For those entrusted to ensure honest and peaceful elections, gift them with the miracle of a pure, God-fearing heart, and grant an honest, operation of the Automated Election System (AES), free from techinical glitches and human manipulations.

For our community, do not allow cynicism, pessimism, and seeming hopelessness to dim our certainty "that all will be well and all manner of things will be well" (Julian of Norwich)
because you are in control.

We believe... we hope.. we love, because Christ is risen and, in the end, good will triumph over evil. Amen.

Prayer B: Open Us, Lord

Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays

Loving Father, look upon Your confused, angry, sometimes hopeless people.

Open our eyes to see the glint of the shining nuggets of goodness buried in the noise and confusion of political propaganda.

Open the ears of our heart to Your whispers of hope that all will be well.

Open our lips to proclaim convincingly that You have been... are... and will always be with us on the side of truth, love and goodness.

Use our hands and feet to involve ourselves in the twists and turns of our electoral history.

Help us to move beyond our comfort zones.

Without you we can do nonthing, but with you, all things are possible. Amen.

Prayer C:   H... O... P... E...

Tuesdays and Fridays

Risen Jesus, You said, "Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and the door will be opened to you."
