Visit to the Philippines

How could such a short visit be so memorable?  Sr. Brigid Lawlor brought with her 59 faces of the congregation’s mission in the world and presented them to us  – the Good Shepherd people of the Philippines gathered in Manila and Cebu.  We, and especially our lay mission partners, felt what they called the internationality of compassion and a new call to mission beyond our borders.

Sr. Brigid proved equal to the invitation to dance the Tinikling in Manila and the Sinulog to the Sto. Niño in Cebu.  These came between visits to our poor in the BECs of our mission in Tahanan in Manila and to trafficked girls and women in Cebu.

At the Eucharistic Thanksgiving and Farewell, we asked Sr. Lourdes Fabia to speak for our hearts:

• Thank you for your sessions for us and with our lay collaborators and affiliates.  You kindled a new fire of missionary zeal in our hearts…

• Thank you very much too for the discovery we made of the person of our congregational leader !  Knowing you, up close and personal, has given us joy and inspiration …

• Thank you for everything you do for the congregation.  Now, when we receive your letters on special occasions, or get communications from the CLT (even those where we have to make written reports with deadlines to meet!), we will see you behind each word and sentence and remember this time you came to be among us.  And we will feel grateful again…

Then, bidding Sr. Brigid farewell, we all blessed her for the journeys ahead.
