Strong earthquakes struck Batangas that caused damages to properties and infrastructures and fear among the residents.

The first significant earthquake registered by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology with a magnitude of 5.5 happened in Tingloy, Batangas (See the Latest Earthquake Information from Philvocs). It was followed by numerous aftershocks. On April 8, two earthquakes with magnitude of 5.6 and 6 were registered in Mabini, Batangas at 3:07 ad 3:09 p.m.

In Batangas City, Sr. Clare Bagot RGS, said sisters from St. Bridget College community had to get out of the building during the earthquakes and had taken precaution by staying in the ground floor during the night. The sisters and staff have inspected the buildings both in SBC Batangas City and SBC Alitagtag. She said engineers from the Batangas City government have been visiting the residences and establishments in Batangas to assure the safety of the people. Sisters are safe and so are their relatives.

The earthquakes came as a surprise to many. The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception which is near St. Bridget College has been closed temporarily for inspection. Holy Week Services will be held at the city's plaza.
