 MV Cassandra sank off Surigao. Many passengers, including four Good Shepherd Sisters, perished. Srs. M. Consuelo Chuidian RGS, Concepcion Conti RGS, Virgina Gonzales RGS and Catherine Loreto RGS gave up their lives so that other passengers may live.

During the elections, Sr. Brigid Lawlor from the Province of Mid-North America was elected as the 11th Superior General. She succeeded Sr. Liliana Tauvette from the Province of Canada who was Superior General from 1991-2003.

September 26, 2009

 Typhoon Ondoy hit the Philippines. Many areas in the country were affected by heavy rains and floods. Heart of Mary Villa was submerged in water. Babies were moved to the second floor of HMV convent. Several days later. Babies at the Heart of Mary Villa were transferred to the 1043 Compound, Formation House was used as nursery. Good Shepherd Sisters helped respond to the needs of typhoon victims.
